The bells at St Michael’s aren’t the easiest to ring and we need to carry out quite a bit of maintenance to improve this. Therefore, we are fund raising to have essential maintenance work carried out on the bells, frame, bearings and routing of the ropes through the tower. We have already covered essential repairs to the clappers to keep the bells ringing which was carried out in 2012 and 2013.  As of 26th June ringing has been temporarily suspended because of problems on the bells which need urgent attention.  This week we start some basic maintenance work plus a major clean up and painting of the frame which we are doing ourselves to save about £6000!  We hope to get them back in use by August, but the major work needed on the bearings, gudgeons, headstocks and routing of the ropes will still need doing.

Our first major fund raising activity takes place on 12th July 2014 when we are having a sponsored walk up Snowdon.  The date is also Gillian’s 50th Birthday – dedication!  Nine of the band, plus a couple of friends will be taking part as a group and all money raised will be put towards work on the bells to preserve and repair them for the future.  The walk is likely to take around 6 or 7 hours in total so we are really putting our hearts into this.  Please sponsor us and keep the bells of St Michael’s ringing out over Lichfield for many years to come.
